Old Geelong Courthouse
Project Value - $5.4m
Client - City of Greater Geelong
The Old Geelong Courthouse redevelopment, Rendine’s largest renovation project to date, aimed to maximise the versatility of the building while retaining and honouring the significant cultural and historical value of the original features.
Extensive internal and external demolition was required before the project began to take shape, and special care was needed to protect the original 1870’s structure. The re-construction was a continual balance between installing the modern necessities and retaining the beauty of the period features. Special effort was required to find crafts people to complete hard plastering, restore the Blackwood doors and parquetry floor.
At completion, the courthouse had a new rehearsal space, 138 seat auditorium, lobby and foyer, gallery, café with indoor and outdoor seating, new administration offices and youth services facilities.
